So your expectations of him...

Are the exact expectations youre criticizing others for?

Your expectations of any coach bringing in 2 of the top 4 highest rated players in school history in one class would be seen as GOAT status at any school. Doing so in Blacksburg would make someone a God.

Virginia Tech has landed 3 top 60 players since the year 2000...every single one of them had a connection to an assistant coach who was hired specifically to bring that kid in. Those coaches then also lost a kid or kids they had connections to. Thats the nature of recruiting.

With that said, VT typically is in the top 10 of a top 60 kid about three times per year. They make the top 5 about half that.

So the typical percentage that VT has of landing someone in the top 60 is ~15%. If Mike Jones increases that to 20%, then hes absolutely worth it.

VT was in the top 5 for Tyrell Ward, Rodney Rice, Eric Dailey and Noah Clowney. Without MJ, only Noah Clowney makes this list, and VT missed out on him (despite prior connections).

So MJ has 3x as many connections to get the foot in the door and thus increased VTs chances of landing someone of that caliber. A caliber very much foreign to VT.

If MJ lands Tyrell Ward, he should be lauded as the greatest recruiter ever to step foot on VTs campus regardless of sport. If he doesnt, then he is still a HUGE positive for VT
